Although I do not know Dr. Ryan Topping in depth, and merely on a light social relationship…his commitment to his Catholic faith, Catholic Education, and family is apparent.
For many years fervent Catholics have steered clear of NTC for the lack of anything good to contribute to the proper education and faith of young adults. Dr. Ryan Topping has been one of the few bright spots that have recently started to turn that view around, attracting many young and faithful Catholics, and causing some to reconsider that maybe, just maybe, NTC might be worth saving.
Unfortunately this appears to have been for nought. I appeal that this case be thoroughly investigated, and properly addressed. Sincerely in Christ. Steven Currie. |

The College knows full well that this termination of Dr. Topping is indefensible. Also, having a Protestant (who has no business working for a Catholic institution) do your dirty work, it seems Dr. Topping was fired for being too effective and too Catholic. It just results in a loss of credibility in Newman as a good Catholic institution at all. |

I echo the sentiments shared here. For a Catholic institution such as NTC to fire a professor in the week before school starts, without cause, certainly demands some explanation to the students and community, not to be hidden away and then erased from the NTC website. For this to occur after the appointment of a Protestant interim President is certainly problematic as well. This is a serious loss for the NTC community, Edmonton archdiocese, and western Canada. |

Dr. Topping is a great and inspiring man, and it has been very demoralizing and discouraging for me to see what has happened recently. This event made me lose faith in the institution and consider withdrawing my support. I expect more transparency from the college and hope for an apology for the harm this has caused. |
