As a Catholic educator with Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools and mother of 9 children, I am so very disappointed with the on-going’s at NTC. One of our children just completed his B.A. under the leadership of Dr. Topping and I cannot express strongly enough how downhearted our family is, not to be able to send more of our children to NTC. This feeling is shared amongst our Catholic community in Saskatoon and larger area. I have no faith in an institution who fires a most stalwart Catholic leader and hires a “profoundly Protestant” woman, who is no leader, nor lover of the True Faith. This injustice must be righted before God and man. |

Your excellency, do you really wish to watch quietly as yet another Catholic institution is handed over to the secular world to be stolen from us, piece by piece? There are so few left in this country. It would be a travesty to remain idle in the face of frankly mild resistance in this case. Wield your power and take a stand. Behold what is happening throughout the Western world today. The flocks are not following politically correct leaders who seek to appease and make peace, but rather those who have taken up the sword of division which Christ announced that he came to bring. Those who hate the truth will hate it whether you dance to their lute or not, it is only those with open hearts seeking a leader who will protect them whom you have any chance of swaying or influencing as a shepherd. Therefore be strong and of good courage and take this fight, and do not let the institutions of our Church go gently into that good night. We live in a land of legal bureaucracy, therefore you have a multiplicity of weapons at your disposal. May God bless and guide you, your faithful thank you. |

"By their fruits, you will know them." (Matt 7) Reading through the comments in this petition, there have been so many lives influenced by Dr. Topping's leadership, and bear witness to his academic excellence and commitment to building a Catholic culture across Alberta and Canada. The Great Books program, the Benedict XVI institute, the leadership camps, to name a few initiatives, would not exist without his presence. I sincerely hope that those who can influence the future development of NTC will see this grassroots campaign and realize the importance of NTC's cultural influence in the local Canadian Catholic community. St. John Henry Newman was well aware of the challenges in post-secondary institutions when he set out to found the Catholic University of Ireland, but his commitment to obedience and the pursuit of holiness allowed him to leave in Ireland with abundant fruit, notably "The Idea of a University" (which should be required reading for all those involved in the present controversy). Obedience and holiness, by these fruits you will know them. |

I remember feeling last year just how blessed I was to have such a marvellous Catholic community so easily accessible to me, and one with such an energy and passion for the Faith, it’s contagious. I feel as though I’ve grown so much just by attending, namely, Credo and Adoremus, and would hope they can continue as they did. NTC would not be the same without Dr Ryan Topping—he and his family have done so much for their community and young, growing and maturing Catholics like myself, and for that I am so grateful. To see that come to so abrupt an end is an absolute shame. My prayers are with them! God’s will be done. |

I am very surprised and terribly disappointed to see that the Catholic authorities are bowing to the ideologies and whims of non-Catholic personalities in our Church administration.
In the first place non- Catholics should have no place in the administration of any aspect of our Faith period. To bend to their "assaults" without due investigation is a down right shame.
As good devout Catholics, should we not be the ones engaging in bringing the non-Catholic into the Faith, rather than they coming into our "house" and leading us away from the fullness of truth? We should know better.
I pray that justice be shown to the two parties concerned and not allow satan to take over our Church. It is clear that Dr. Jo- Anne Badley does not endorse the principles of the Catholic Faith. Moreover, she is only holding a temporary position. She should not have been given this Office at NTC in the first pla

Too many times I have seen cases such as this in which the innocent party is wrongfully dismissed and the so called “higher ups” get away with it!! I hope and pray this is not the case with Dr. Topping whose only crime has been to embrace and exemplify Catholic teaching! |

Catholic Higher Education in Canada must be kept faithfully Catholic. If NTC has strayed from the authentic Catholic faith, please bring it back! Canadian students need it.
Sidenote: perhaps Dr. Topping may consider a move to apply for the position of President at Canada's only college recommended by the Cardinal Newman Society, Our Lady Seat of Wisdom College, in Barry's Bay, Ontario. It has not faltered from its path of presenting faithful Catholic teaching and fostering an authentic and rich Catholic culture. |

Being a recent convert to the our Holy Catholic religion, I express my wholehearted support for Dr. Topping as a pillar of the community, and a great source of edification especially during my time as a catechumen. The way in which he has been treated by NTC in recent weeks is nothing short of outrageous, and it has undoubtedly stained the reputation of the college in the eyes of many. How could the leadership of a college, which claims to be Catholic, even countenance the abrupt dismissal of a professor who lives and teaches the true faith in such a way that scores of young Catholics have flocked to hear him at events such as Credo and Adoremus? I shudder also at the thought of a protestant, an enemy of the Church, being put at the helm of this college, and holding any position of authority over Catholic students, let alone seminarians. What would Saint Fidelis of Sigmaringen say? I pray for the conversion of Dr. Badley and for the entire board to realize the damage which has already been inflicted on the college by the unjust dismissal of Dr. Topping. Saint John Henry Newman, pray for us! |
